A celebrity customer called us and wanted to buy the new Pillars Tee but was kinda worried about rocking it because he wasn’t a Muslim. We explained that although the shirt is made for people observing Ramadan, the significance can be practiced by anyone with a little discipline.
Here is how everyone, even Rappers can observe Ramadan, still stay fresh, and not be Muslim…..of course if you are not Muslim already. lol
Ramadan starts this month on June 17th and will continue for 30 days until or around Friday, the 17th of July.
Faith: Belief in God or a Supreme Being is at the center of all beliefs both ancient and modern. God may go by different names (Allah, Elohim, Jehovah, Tagaloa) but no person should be praised but the Lord of the Universe. So, not praising your favorite sports figure could wait for a month…lol
Prayer: Since you can’t text God (unless you have Rakim’s cell phone) you must learn to communicate with The Creator. The more you communicate the better the relationship gets. Muslims perform five prayers a day. Each prayer does not take more than a few minutes to perform. The real science of prayer in all religions is a direct link between the individual and God. During Ramadan you will be praying with Billions of Muslims, Christians, and Hebrews together.
Charity: For 30 days let's try being charitable to the people who might be buying your next single. It’s not about giving money away but you can give a little bit of your time. Volunteer at a shelter or helping children. Remember all things belong to God, and wealth is therefore held by human beings in trust. The original meaning of the word Charity in Arabic is zakat which means both ‘purification’ and ‘growth.’
Fasting: It's not just about abstaining from food, drink, sexual and relations during the sunlight hours, but also avoiding lewd TV programs, lewd movies, music with cursing, fighting, and arguing during this time. If that is too hard and you're just not “bout that life” try going vegetarian and avoiding anything that is toxic to your body and not uplifting your mind. The goal is to be disciplined and to grow.
Pilgrimage: Knowledge of Self is the key to life. During this time pick up a book or magazine about your culture or history and become an expert. If you can, talk to an elder in your family and gain a better perspective about your family history and the ancestors who paved a way for you to be here.
Write about your experience: After showing a little discipline with food, giving charity, studying yourself, no cursing, and avoiding arguments and fights, you may be at a creative high! Put your thoughts in a verse and send it to us (get[at]nation19dotcom) in July and we may pay you to use it in our next film or commercial! … if it's dope lol
